PartyChief (Ampliora product): Party games that read the room and run the night

PartyChief is a party game app we designed and built. The host sets up a room, guests join on their own phones with a code or QR, answer a few quick questions, and the games take over: cards picked for the crowd, turns, scores and the clock all handled.

Most party games put one person in charge of a phone or a deck of cards. That person ends up running the night instead of enjoying it, and the cards rarely fit the people in the room.

Group game apps tend to be one-size-fits-all. What works for close friends is wrong for an office team, and anything that goes too far, too fast, makes people switch off.

We wanted a host that knows the crowd: everyone plays on their own phone, nobody needs an account to join, every person sets their own limits, and the games stay right for the room they are in.

What we built

We built PartyChief, a web app where a chief host opens a room and guests join from their phones. A short questionnaire tells PartyChief who is playing and what they are up for, and the game engine deals cards that fit, rotates turns, keeps score and runs the clock. Three rooms cover teams and mixed company, close friends and couples, and adults-only nights.

Inside the build

  • Everyone on their own phone: Guests join with a room code or QR code. No app and no account, and private cards and answers stay on each person’s own screen.
  • Cards that fit the room: More than 4,000 cards across games like Never Have I Ever, Would You Rather, Two Truths and a Lie and Who’s Most Likely To, each tagged so the engine only deals what suits the people playing.
  • Limits respected: Everyone sets their own limits, anyone can step back from a card, and the room always plays at the level its players agreed to.
  • Work-safe Green Room: Icebreakers, quizzes and team challenges for offices and offsites, with teams of 2 to 6, a team scoreboard and nothing physical or drinking related.
  • TV screen: A read-only view for a laptop, projector or smart TV that shows the join QR code, questions, countdown, results and scoreboard, and never anything private.
  • Host controls: Lock the room, let a player back in with a one-time code, write custom cards on the spot, and hand over to a new chief host by a room vote.
  • Recap: At the end everyone sees the totals, awards for what happened in front of the room and a private “your night” card. Then the party is closed and its data deleted.
  • Try it in 10 seconds: Pass-the-phone games, “Who goes first?” and a host personality quiz work instantly on one phone, with no sign-up.
